Garlic Helps Against Cancer & Much More


Herbalists and ayurvedic practitioners have used garlic to treat myriad diseases for many years. Ancient Egyptians healers used it to build physical strength, the Greeks used it as a laxative and the Chinese used it to lower blood pressure. In the Middle Ages, eating some amounts of garlic provided immunity against plague.

Louis Pasteur, the great 19th century French chemist, found that garlic possesses anti-septic properties and this information was used during World War I and II by the British, German and Russian armies. Since then numerous studies have confirmed that garlic is an excellent remedy against bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections. Cancer
A Meta analysis was done which showed that consuming an average of six or more cloves a week lowered the risk of colorectal cancer by 30 percent and stomach cancer by 50 percent when compared with the consumption of less than one clove a week. It also helps in reducing the risk of prostate cancer in men. A national cancer institute study of men in Shanghai showed that eating a clove per day reduced the risk of prostate cancer by more than 50 percent. It consists of many anticancer compounds and antioxidants, more than 30 at the last count, such as quercetin, diallyl sulphide, allin and ajoene. These have the ability to block cancer causing agents such as nitrosamine and aflatoxin which have been specifically linked to stomach, lung and liver cancer.

Weight Loss
Allicin is the main ingredient found in garlic. It not only helps in reducing the risk of heart diseases but also helps in controlling weight by lowering the blood levels of low density lipoproteins. A study published in the American Journal of Hypertension reported that animals with higher levels of blood insulin, high blood pressure and high triglycerides were either given allicin or used as a control. All the animals consumed same amount of nutrition, weight gain occurred only in the control group and the animals treated with allicin maintained stable weight which suggested that allicin helps in weight control.

Infections
Garlic contains compounds that act as powerful natural anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and antifungal agents. It inhibits the fungi that cause athlete’s foot, vaginal yeast infections and many cases of ear infections. Laboratory studies have shown that garlic extract can neutralize Helicobacter pylori, the bacterium responsible for causing gastric ulcers.

Heart diseases
Garlic has excellent beneficial effect on the heart health. It has been proved that garlic helps in lowering blood pressure, decrease formation of clots, reduce the levels of bad cholesterol in the blood, and increase blood levels of good cholesterol. It helps to prevent arteriosclerosis and reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke by reducing the amount of free radicals in the blood. Studies have shown that two or three cloves of garlic per day reduce the risk of heart attacks in 50 percent of heart patients.

Respiratory problems
Garlic is an excellent home remedy for respiratory problems. You can make garlic syrup at home for cough and colds. Boil garlic bulbs in water till soft and add equal quantity of vinegar to the boiling water. Then add sugar to the water in which garlic bulbs have been boiled to make syrup. Pour this syrup over the boiled garlic bulbs kept in a bottle. Take one or two clove of garlic with one teaspoon of syrup to get effective results for asthma and other respiratory diseases.

For ear infection
Take a small piece of garlic and wrap in some tissue. Insert it into the ear and leave overnight if possible. Pain will disappear and infection starts clearing up within hours.

Athletes’ foot
Put one or two cloves of garlic in between the affected fingers and tie some cloth of bandage. It will give immediate relief from the pain and other signs of infection.

Garlic is a good home remedy for healing pain produced by insect bites such as scorpions and centipedes. You can take out fresh juice of garlic and mix some salt to it. Then apply it over the bruises and cuts to get relief.
